Zohreh Jooya was born and raised in Mashhad, Iran. Her father being from Afghanistan and her mother from Iran she profited from both cultures. After high school she moved to Europe to study music. Beginning in Amsterdam, she then came to Vienna where she received a classical music education at the “Academy of Music”. She then earned a master degree in classical singing at the “Conservatory of the City of Vienna”.
Both, the Oriental and the European worlds influenced and inspired Jooya. Her European classical engagements have been, not only in diverse opera performances throughout Europe but also in the performance of the songs of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert on television and radio shows. Currently Jooya performs at concerts, covering a broad spectrum from Italian baroque music to music from Iran and Afghanistan.
She has created a new way of interpreting the traditional music from Iran and Afghanistan which are published by Koch International, ARC Music and Taraneh Record on several albums.
